09:30 - 10:00 Category Management in Clinical Development – How to Determine the Best Sourcing Approach for your Organization

Given the sensitive nature of clinical trials, the way they are purchased and the agreements involved can be cumbersome and complicated. Dave Freschi and Ratan Ratnesh will walk us through best practices involved with sourcing this expensive category specifically. They will talk about things like:

-Ranking and evaluating key outsourcing variables — the money, the contract and the people
-Understanding the perspective of legal, compliance and R&D before conducting research on perspective suppliers and analyze criteria and considerations for vetting CMOs
-Reviewing potential vendors, requesting proposals (what info should be included)
-Writing up outsourcing specific contracts and coming up with long term KPI’s to evaluate vendors you choose to work with
-What is the lifecycle of an outsourcing engagement? How does that evolve over time?

Clinical and non-clinical activities as they relate to R&D are by and large the biggest categories of indirect spend for biopharma. With so many investments being made in drug development, how can procurement better support innovation and drive efficiency? This session will look at how procurement can:

-Create value in an environment where speed, trust and quality are the key currencies
-Find opportunities to drive productivity across the organization to support the science
-Collaborate internally to simplify processes to cut down cycle time --Develop an innovation marketplace to simplify the search for suppliers
-Embed information on supplier and services to share knowledge globally
-Reduce cycle time in R&D, leading to significant cost reduction

10:45 - 11:05 Welcome to the Future of Procurement: Vision 2020

Imagine it's the year 2020. Procurement has evolved so much over the past decade, you barely recognize it. Its functions have been decentralized – or outsourced! – leaving leadership to focus on very different things. Job descriptions have changed dramatically. What's more, suppliers seem to have infiltrated the organization. Today’s focus on cost savings will give way to a broader, more balanced emphasis on profitability, leaving open the question of whether supply management concentrates on cost savings or revenue growth to get there.

Working Group A

12:00 - 13:00 Moving from Early to Middle Maturity Working Group
If you’re in the middle of your procurement transformation process, but are getting stuck or hitting roadblocks, what can you do to move your maturity level to be in line with your competitors or companies of similar size? Attendees will break into these working group sessions and craft an action plan of five ideas or takeaways that you can implement immediately to begin getting results back in the office. The action plans will be reported back to the entire group during the afternoon sessions. Each group is limited to 30 participants to ensure practical takeaways.

13:00 - 14:10 Lunch for all attendees

Now that you’ve got the eyes and ears of internal business owners, how will you make the most of this opportunity? How can you work more closely to deliver the most value to the business? This panel discussion will explore:

-Marketing your procurement organization as a peer function who can bring solutions to the table, not just a support function looking to disrupt things
-Making sure they understand that while you are looking to save costs, you are also hoping to help mitigate risk and ensure all aspects of the business run more efficiently- thus improving quality and speed to market for their products
-Building credibility with internal stakeholders so they trust to bring you into business/resourcing decisions right at the beginning of the discussion
-Ensuring there is ongoing communication and transparency with stakeholders through business review meetings where you can be better understanding their goals and get visibility into their budgets

After 40 minutes of panel discussion onstage, we will be taking the panel to the audience and will ask small groups in the audience to discuss the panel topics- giving you a chance to be a bit more interactive!
